Media Spotlight: Octonauts

Media Spotlight: Octonauts

I love this show. My kids can watch this show day in and day out,  and often do, and I don’t get sick of it because I am learning so much from it. It’s written by two marine biologists, and it is chock-full of amazing sea animal facts. Did you know, there is a jellyfish that can turn itself back into a baby and start its life all over? It only dies if it gets eaten! I don’t think I ever would have learned that without this show. And it doesn’t hurt that I wanted to be a marine biologist when I was a kid.

Not only are the characters cute and the storylines are fun, but this show is just as fact filled as The Magic School Bus, which I watched in school as a kid, so I don’t feel bad at all using it as a homeschool resource. In fact, the only flaw I have seen is when they had caterpillars change into butterflies during a day when it really takes weeks, but in all fairness, that was on the spinoff series, not the main series. The spinoff series, Octonauts Above and Beyond, is also pretty great though. All in all, this is one of my favorite shows, kid shows or otherwise.
